Paper Machine Doctoring

Dewatering and doctoring are not only related to energy consumption, but also play a big role in paper machine runnability, efficiency and profitability, as well as paper profiles. Therefore, a well-designed and operated paper machine dewatering and doctoring system is the key to a well-performing and energy-efficient press section.

Optimized doctoring lead to increased dryness after the press section. Savings in dryer section steam usage are notable.

Runtech’s high‑performance carbon fiber products are designed to improve runnability, reliability, and ease of maintenance in demanding paper machine environments.

CompoAdapt is a unique hose loaded carbon composite blade holder with an easily retractable top plate can be used with all typical doctor blades.

With more than 4,000 units installed worldwide, CompoAdapt is trusted for its reliability and performance. To ensure your holders continue operating at peak efficiency, we are pleased to offer our RunCare CompoAdapt Service.

Runtech CompoAdapt Blade Holder

AirBlade enables high nip dewatering even with low machine speeds, helps with roll cleanliness problems, improves moisture profiles and has positive effect on machine speed.

AirBlades are needed in situations where conventional roll dewatering and web handling are no longer sufficient to maintain sheet quality and runnability. As nip dewatering efficiency increases, the risk of rewetting, sheet crushing, wrinkles, and other web disturbances also rises, particularly when water is carried back into the sheet at the roll exit. AirBlades effectively remove free water from roll surfaces, helping prevent rewetting and stabilizing the sheet as it leaves the nip.

AirBlades also address roll cleanliness issues by continuously cleaning the roll surface, reducing the buildup of water, fibers, and contaminants that can compromise performance. In addition, they help correct uneven moisture profiles by supporting more uniform water removal across the machine width.

With carbon fiber, there is no heat expansion nor corrosion, and stiffness and strength properties are excellent. In addition, the structure is light, only 1/10 of stainless steel. It is not sensitive to vibrations and is easy to handle. Unlike steel or aluminum, composite materials do not have shape memory. When a composite holder is bent, it returns to its original form due to its elastic properties.

Composites can be tailored for specific strength, stiffness, and weight requirements and CompoAdapt is designed especially for paper machine conditions.

  • No Heat Expansion or Corrosion
  • Exceptional Stiffness and Strength
  • Lightweight: Only 1/10 the weight of stainless steel
  • Vibration Resistant & Easy to Handle
  • Elastic Recovery: Unlike metals, composites return to original form after bending.
  • Tailored for Paper Machine Conditions: Optimized for strength, stiffness, and weight requirements.
